We're a pretty tightly-knit community. We're open with each other and say what's on our minds. Sometimes I feel though that simply hiding the posts from non-members isn't strong enough security. Starting tonight, threads will start disappearing. Not because I've deleted them, but because they've been moved to new child boards that regular members can't see yet. It's tentative what will actually happen, but for now I'm just going to start moving the older threads. Once we've figured out how we want to divide up the final child boards / how we can enable a workable and more security level, the child boards will become public (or at least in varying degrees of "public") and all threads will be in one of the child boards. There'll be more on this later. If you guys have any comments or suggestions, now would be the time to voice them.
So far, we have a Holiday/Birthday/Personal Events-ish child board, a Warm/Fuzzy/Fun child board, and an ENTIRE childboard dedicated ENTIRELY to bitching and moaning.
Stay tuned and drop me a line on your thoughts.

-Specific threads about specific things. Declarations, drunken laments, and "IM LEAVING" threads go here.
2. Balloons 'n Junk
-Birthday threads, personal event threads (i.e. your trip to Hawaii), and holiday discussions.
3. Flame Free
-The nicey-nice, all-inclusive general discussion area. Flame Free does not imply argument free, however. That said, play nice, don't talk shit, and be respectful of others' feelings.
4. The All-Inclusive Bitch & Moan Board
-This will replace the thread. There will be a general thread specifically for petty bitching (i.e. I stubbed my toe, I have too much homework, biophysics suck, G is a boob, etc.). The current thread will be locked and hidden in Admin land, but you're free to PM one of the staff members if you want one of us to find you something in it. Otherwise, specific threads for specific problems. This makes the board more accessible to posters that want to talk about something and makes it so they don't have to wade through 200+ pages.

This all sounds like an excellent idea to me, full support.
As for extra security, I know on some boards I've been on, certain sections were only available to those who had made a certain number of posts. I'm not sure if that's possible on this board and/or what level to set it at, but that way even if somebody is a member, they have to be a regular contributor to make it into certain sections.

Yeah. For now, I'm thinking making the requirement 50 posts is fair. I'm not sure if that's the best way to go, seeing as if someone has a bitch, I really want someone to be able to have it addressed, regardless of their post count, but maybe for now that's the best way to handle things. I'm thinking about making Flame Free public. Maybe even In Other News and Events. That might make lurkers more keen on joining.

This sounds like it'll work :3 and I think the post count correlating with seeing everything would work.
Maybe instead of 50 like 25? or between 25-50?
